Hadal Relay

A deep-sea shooter for iPhone and iPad

Your failed dives come back to fight beside you.

Salvage divers in heavy suits push along the sea floor against the Bloom, a reef of machines that builds itself out of the wrecks. Lose a try and it returns on the next one as a cyan relay that fires the same shots, and every one of them hits.

Gameplay: the diver, lit by an amber helmet lamp, fires at the Dredge Maw, a green-glowing machine core. A see-through cyan diver, the relay of an earlier attempt, runs and fires beside him.
You, a relay of your last try, and a core of the Bloom.

Relay Squad

Every failed dive joins the next one

Your helmet records sonar the whole way down. When a try ends, the recording becomes a relay: the attempt that didn't make it passes the baton to the one that might.

  1. One hit costs a tank

A machine, a shot or a steam vent ends the try and spends one of your three air tanks. The reach resets to its start.

  2. The try comes back

Your last attempt dives beside you as a cyan relay. It retraces its route and fires the exact shots it fired, and they do real damage to machines and bosses.

  3. Up to three at once

Fall three times in one reach and four divers take it on together. Each retry gets easier, but relays only replay: they never finish a reach for you.

Three stars go to the dive with no deaths, so the cleanest run is still yours to chase. Relays can't take a hit for you either.

On the sea floor

Two thumbs, short dives, big machines

Made for anyone who grew up on side-scrolling arcade shooters and now plays in two-minute gaps.

Controls

Aim eight ways, never tap to fire

Drag on the left to run and aim in eight directions; tap on the right to jump. Your sonic gun fires by itself when a machine is in view. Hold LOCK to keep your aim while you run.

Salvage

Five guns in the cargo

Sunken crates hang on cables. Shoot the cable or touch the crate to swap in Pulse, Fan, Arc, Lance or Seeker. One gun at a time, so pick the one the reach calls for.

Bosses

A core at the end of every dive

Each dive ends at a core of the Bloom with attacks you can read: each one is signalled before it lands. Bring relays and the fight ends sooner.

Pace

Short reaches, fair restarts

A dive is three reaches of 30 to 45 seconds, then the core. A death only sends you back to the start of the reach, never the whole dive.

The Bloom

Machines, not soldiers

Drill crabs, drones, gunners, turrets and spawning nests, plus steam vents, currents, collapsing ledges and falling rock that throws its shadow first.

Suits

Dress for the deep

Spend salvage on Polished Brass or Abyssal armor. Your lamp always stays amber, so you can find yourself in any fight.

The campaign

Three trenches, nine dives

Start on the Wreck Shelf, push into the Coral Works, end in the Black Basin. One dive climbs straight up out of a pit.

Questions

Before you dive

Are there ads?

No. Hadal Relay has no ads of any kind, and no rewards for watching them.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. The game plays fully offline and never asks who you are. The network is used only by the App Store, to make or restore a purchase.

What is a relay?

A replay of an attempt that ended in a death. On your next try it moves along the same route and fires the same shots, and those shots damage machines and bosses. You can have up to three relays at once; they clear when you finish the reach.

What does a Spare Tank do?

When you run out of air, a Spare Tank restarts the reach you were on and keeps your relays. You can use up to two in one dive. Without one, you restart the dive from Reach 1.

How hard is it?

One hit costs a tank, and each dive gives you three. Attacks are signalled before they land, and relays make each retry easier, but they can't win a reach on their own.

Does it run on iPad?

Yes. Hadal Relay plays in landscape on iPhone and iPad with iOS 15 or later.
